Bomb Squad Commander
Lieutenant Matthew Gill began his law enforcement career in the fall of 2009 as a part-time patrolman with the Cridersville Police Department, following six years of service as an Aerospace Journeyman in the United States Air Force. He served with Cridersville until the spring of 2012, when he was hired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
In the spring of 2013, Lt. Gill was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, where he trained his first patrol/explosives detection partner, K9 Grimm. Over the next seven years, Lt. Gill and K9 Grimm worked primarily on second and third shift assignments until August 2020, when Lt. Gill was promoted to 3rd shift Patrol Sergeant. In the spring of 2021, following K9 Grimm’s retirement, Lt. Gill trained his 2nd patrol/explosives detection partner, K9 Eyk.
Throughout his career, Lt. Gill has earned numerous certifications and distinctions. He is a K9 certifying official for the State of Ohio, a certified Hazardous Materials Technician, and a Master Trainer in K9 patrol operations, as well as narcotics, explosives, cadaver, and accelerant detection. He also serves as an Executive Board Member with the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers, ACSO K9 Unit supervisor, and an FBI-certified Public Safety Bomb Technician.
In the spring of 2024, Lt. Gill was promoted to Commander of the Allen County Regional Bomb Squad. He continued to serve as a Patrol Sergeant on various shifts until the spring of 2026, when he was promoted to Third Shift Lieutenant.
